Mario A Mutis R

Mario was born in 1989 in Bogota, Colombia. He earned his BFA in Interdisciplinary-Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012 and his MFA in Ceramics at the University of Florida in 2015. He is currently teaching as an assistant professor at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. Mario is a practicing interdisciplinary artist who creates works related to his reality as an indigenous Muysca/Pastos of Colombia.

On July 28th, 2022, for the first time in almost 500 years, we, the Indigenous Muyscas of Colombia, created Tunjos using a traditional metal casting technique. We engaged in a practice that hadn’t been seen, felt, or heard of in centuries. Words lack the ability to communicate the pride, joy, and sense of empowerment we all felt.
