L&L Kilns began as a love story. During World War II, Virginia Lewicki ran a pottery studio in Chester, PA, while her husband, Steve, Sr., was a welder at the shipyard. Determined to build a better kiln for his wife’s studio, Steve partnered with a colleague, Isadore Levin, and founded L&L in 1946.

From the start, innovation was key. Steve designed kilns anyone could repair, a core philosophy of L&L to this day. In the 1950s, he invented the ceramic element holder, a key component of L&L kilns that has served generations of potters by drastically improving kilns’ durability.

Now in its 3rd generation of family ownership, L&L is the oldest U.S. manufacturer of pottery and school kilns. We remain committed to the customer and planet by building the most durable and user-friendly kilns, and operating a solar-powered manufacturing facility with a focus on using sustainable materials wherever possible.
