Sharbani Das Gupta

Born in India, Sharbani graduated in visual communications from the country’s premier institute for industrial design, the National Institute of Design, followed by a two-year apprenticeship in clay at the Golden Bridge Pottery, a production pottery and clay art center in Pondicherry, India. She is a founding member and co-curator of the Indian Ceramics Triennale, a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and Artaxis. She has exhibited in the United Kingdom, China, Greece, Israel, United States, Australia, Taiwan, and India. She has contributed articles to Art India, Ceramic Art & Perception, Ceramics Ireland, and New Ceramics. An active participant in international clay conferences, she has moderated discussions on cultural appropriation and presented a photo documentary on traditional Indian image-making techniques at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and in Australia. Das Gupta currently works out of her studio in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
