Here's what's on for October (whoa, there is a lot!):
October 1: Mudflat Pottery Studio in Somerville, MA is having their annual gala: Hats Off to Mudflat! The event includes an online auction, happening now and including many area potters, including a piece by SP editor Elenor Wilson, SP board members, Hayne Bayless and Hollis Engley, and SP editor emerita, Mary Barringer.
October 6-7: Contemporary Clay: A Survey of Contemporary American Ceramics at Western Carolina University Fine Art Museum, includes an exhibiton (Oct. 6 - Dec. 16) and symposium (Oct. 6-7) curated and organized by Heather Mae Erickson, Assistant Professor of Art at WCU, and former SP contributor.
October 6-8: Waubonsee Community College, Sugar Grove, Illinois, hosts the 2016 International Woodfire Conference. The focus of this conference is to continue the ongoing dialogue about the wood fire process that began at the conferences in Iowa and Northern Arizona as it relates to the ceramic arts. SP editor, Elenor Wilson, and board member, Fred Herbst will both be attending.
October 14: Pinch Gallery will be hosting Indiana artist, Justin Rothshank, for Northampton, Massachusetts’s Arts Night Out (ANO). This is the second stop on Rothshank’s East Coast tour, which will bring him first to Harvard for a one-day workshop/lecture, then on to Pinch, and finish out with an event at Ferrin Contemporary, North Adams, in tandem with the exhibit Know Justice, (September 10th to November 13th). SP editor, Elenor Wilson, will be at Pinch offering copies of Studio Potter free with purchase of Justin’s work.
October 13-15: The 12th national American Craft Council Conference, "Present Tense," is taking place in Omaha, Nebraska. Check it out!
October 13-23: Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts fall eBay auction. Over 100 notable artists and collectors have generously donated art and craft pieces to the fundraiser for anyone to bid on and win.
October 29-30: Pottery on the Hill at Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital, Washington D.C. - so many good pots! Check it out!
Sept. 24 - Nov. 10: The Clay Arts Center, Portchester, New York, is showing Hot Pots. Co-curated by Judith Shwartz Ph.D. and Adam Chau, and including fifty area artists, Hot Pots aims to be "a catalog of technique, scale, aesthetic, and utility that is as diverse as New York itself."
