Eileen Sackman

Eileen Sackman holds an MFA in ceramics from SUNY New Paltz, an MA in sculpture from Adelphi University, a BA in sculpture from Hunter College, and an AA in art from Nassau Community College. In addition to maintaining a vibrant studio practice and active exhibition schedule, she teaches at The Art School at Old Church, Clay Art Center, Nassau Community College, and Monmouth University.

Through adjustments in kiln design, wood selection, stacking methods, and firing duration, we were able to refine our approach and draw closer to capturing the soul of traditional Japanese unglazed, wood-fire pottery. Each firing brought us a step closer to the organic beauty and depth of Iga ware, challenging us to honor the time-honored techniques passed down by Furutani Michio.
